About

To: The reader, whoever you are
From: Juliet Kincaid, fiction addict
Subject: The mission of this blog

My main purpose in this blog is simple and limited. I’ll write about what I learn from the books I read that will help me write my own. (So if it’s a typical book review you’re hankering after, please look elsewhere.)

Beyond that goal, I can describe at least the probabilities for this column.

I’ll post a blog every other week. Entries won’t run on and on; a 1,000 words or so should do it most of the time. Chances are I won’t include lengthy synopses, spoilers, or slams.

Since I read mostly mystery novels, I’ll mostly write about mystery novels–not exclusively though. From time to time I read science fiction. Lessons gleaned from books about writing might also appear.

Personally, I greatly enjoy historical and humorous mysteries, but I aim to discuss many kinds of mystery fiction, both classic and current best-sellers, for we can learn from them all, and not just about mystery fiction either, but all sorts of fiction.

Although I’m a member of Sisters in Crime, the support group for women mystery writers, I’ll alternate entries about men and women writers. (We women can learn lots about fiction writing from the big boys like the late and greatly missed Tony Hillerman, Robert B. Parker, and Dick Francis.)

You can visit me on Facebook to learn about my progress with my current project. Comments welcome.

Best, Juliet
